Arkados Releases Initial Smart Building Application on its Arktic™ Software Platform

NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Arkados Group, Inc. (AKDS), a global provider of scalable and interoperable Internet of Things (IoT) solutions focused on industrial automation and energy management, today is pleased to announce the launch of its Energy Measurement and Verification (EM&V) Smart Building application based on the Arktic™ software platform.  Leveraging the computing capabilities of Arktic with its robust scalability and interoperability and its integration with sensors and gateways, the EM&V application is designed to gather, store and analyze energy consumption data and enable better decision making, reduce costs and increase efficiency and productivity and ultimately a higher bottom line for facilities managers and property owners.

The Arktic™ EM&V is designed to enable the implementation of multiple types of sensors, such as temperature, humidity, light, energy and water consumption, motion and occupancy, indoor air quality and noise, that can gather information throughout a building or complex. The engine within the application can provide for initial benchmarking to determine the unique building signature and be used for continuous monitoring to yield insights that may not otherwise be evident.  The benefits of the Arktic™ EM&V, which is based on the principals of the International Performance M&V Protocol, are reductions in energy costs, improvements in environmental conditions, improving sustainability, lowering operational and maintenance costs and extending the useful life of lighting, HVAC and other systems.

“The release of the Arktic™ EM&V application is a significant milestone in the Company’s growth,” states Arkados Group CEO, Terrence DeFranco.  “Measurement and Verification ensures the accurate assessment of an investment in energy and water efficiency, such as demand management, energy conservation measures, renewable energy projects and indoor air quality. Our application not only automates the process, but is capable of providing a valuable feedback loop of useful data so facilities managers can gain the insights required to maintain an optimization of conditions in the building.  We plan to offer the EM&V application through a subscription model and believe that our ability to scale the platform to include other valuable applications in the future will give us a great competitive advantage in our services business.”

For Arkados Group, the release of the Arktic™ EM&V application represents another very significant milestone as the company focuses on developing valuable technology solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things and brings them to market.  With the Arktic™ EM&V application, Arkados is able to quickly bring full-featured solutions to a range of customers in large addressable markets and optimize return on investment.

Arkados Signs with Airfi Networks to Integrate Advanced Cellular Connectivity into Commercial Customer Devices and Systems

Integrated Cellular Communication Platform provides flexible, scalable connectivity for best-in-class Industrial Internet of Things solutions

NEWARK, N.J., Nov. 17, 2016 — Arkados Group, Inc. (OTC:AKDS), a leading software developer and system integrator enabling Internet of Things (“IoT”) applications, today announced that the Company has signed an agreement with Airfi Networks (“Airfi”) to integrate Airfi’s advanced cellular connectivity solutions via SIMs, connected network and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication platform, into customer devices and systems that require around the clock communication, monitoring and data gathering such as machine management and measurement and verification, just to name a few.

Airfi’s M2M platform has simple APIs and a web based portal for the management of devices and SIM cards worldwide. Network access is managed centrally and SIMs are updated over the air for seamless network access. Once a SIM is integrated into a system, the customers’ mobile devices will then be able to establish communication between the system and the customers’ chosen central application servers using Airfi’s SIM and connected networks, and transmit data on the system almost immediately.

Terrence DeFranco, Chief Executive Officer of Arkados Group, Inc., commented,” Airfi is an affordable, trusted provider of managed cellular connectivity solutions for IoT globally, and our top choice as a partner. In over 206 countries and with over 450 networks worldwide, not only is their platform more affordable than the rest, Airfi is known to work well with their technology partners and manufacturers to bring great connectivity, service and support to customers. We couldn’t be more pleased to work with their superior engineering and support teams, and to continue delivering only the best-in-class M2M communication and IoT solutions to our commercial customers’ devices and systems at the lowest possible cost.  We believe that the addition of cellular communication to our portfolio of capabilities can drive significant sales of our Industrial Internet of Things solutions.”

In a November 2015 press release, Gartner estimates that the Internet of Things (IoT) will support total professional services (defined as external providers that design, install and operate IoT systems for businesses under contract) spending of $235 billion in 2016, up 22% from 2015, and that connectivity services (through communications service providers) and consumer services will grow at an even faster pace. Another more recent Gartner report estimates IoT deployment in commercial buildings is on track to reach just over 1 billion in 2018.

According to Goldman Sachs, there are currently 12 billion devices connected to the Internet of Things and the amount can surge to 30 billion by 2020, largely driven by advances in cellular connectivity.

Welcome to the CEO Corner!

October 24, 2016

Over the past few years, Arkados™ has evolved into a leading Internet of Things (IoT) companies in the industry.  We believe we provide a unique value proposition for commercial machine and building owners: solutions to drive down energy consumption and operational costs and increase efficiency and useful life of our customers’ assets.  Put simply, we use innovative and pervasive data gathering and analytical software solutions to help increase return on investments for our customers.

In 2013, we began as a software development company working with Tatung Co., a Taiwanese corporation (Tatung), to bring full-featured IoT products to market for many verticals.  In 2015, we identified an attractive opportunity in the industrial automation industry and launched Arkados Energy Solutions, LLC, as a means of penetrating the market that is currently $120 billion in size according to Gartner Group.  We believe that the combination of our innovative, open and scalable software platform and the strategic relationship with Tatung, our hardware design and manufacturing partner, will enables us to compete with both the legacy companies, such as Johnson Controls, Siemens and GE, as well as other emerging technology companies.

This isn’t just the belief of an optimistic CEO.  While we believe that innovation will ultimately create great value for our shareholders, the initial test is not by winning innovation prizes, but by acquiring customers.  Arkados™ has successfully grown its business from zero sales in FY2014 to a run rate of approximately $2 million as of our most recently reported year end results.  We believe that we will be able to continue to grow revenues by focusing our efforts on bringing value to our customers through innovation and cost savings.  In turn, our shareholders may benefit from the attractive margins associates with our products and services.

We anticipate that FY 2017 will be an exciting year in our evolution as we introduce new products, acquire new customers, scale our operations and ultimately drive more value to our shareholders.  Opportunities abound and our team is poised to execute on our business strategy and continue to make Arkados™ a significant player in this exploding market.

Newark Introduces City-wide Initiative to Better Connect Its Residents to Each Other and the World

City, University and Business Leaders to Collaborate on Making Newark a “Smart City”

NEWARK – October 17, 2016 – Newark officials joined today with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) an NJIT corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the state’s science and technology university, and corporate partners to announce a long-term program that would help propel the city into becoming one of the most technologically-connected cities in the nation.

Newark is taking the necessary steps toward becoming a “Smart City,” as part of a sweeping White House initiative that brings together academia, government and business to innovate and create the next generation of urban technology and infrastructure. For communities like Newark, these solutions would permeate all parts of the city experience for residents, daytime workers and visitors.

“Imagine Newark as a city where technology enhances every part of your life, wherever you may be,” said Donald Sebastian, president and CEO of NJII. “Through the Smart Cities initiative, we will be reshaping and enhancing how the public experiences Newark. The open technology infrastructure we are creating will be a magnet to attract entrepreneurial businesses whose products will reshape urban life using the Internet of Things, and they will contribute greatly to the economic vitality of our city.”

With smart city technologies, Newark can better tackle key challenges such as reducing traffic congestion, fighting crime, fostering economic growth, managing the effects of a changing climate, and improving the delivery of city services. It is part of the national “MetroLab” network, in which NJIT and Newark joined 40 other regional city-university partnerships across the nation.

The local program is called MetroLab@Newark.

During a kick-off event today at NJIT, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, NJII leaders, corporate partners and the Newark Downtown District explained what the announcement means to the city and its people.

“This is a big step forward for the City, to make us an innovative hub where tech companies will want to locate.  BrandNewark is a physical extension of that, and a way that the neighborhoods can feel like this innovation is all around them and they are a part of it.  We want to make it happen right here, a smart city, gigabit internet and a tech-savvy workforce,” said Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka

Much of the work involved in creating a smart city will be behind the scenes as it focuses on creating significantly enhanced Wi-Fi bandwidth that is easily accessible in Newark. But there is one highly visible element, which will form the first project that will be opening this fall at Prudential Way and Broad Street, at Military Park.

Funded by the Newark Downtown District, and supported by the city, an Internet kiosk (named Brand Newark) will open on the site. It will be a powerful Wi-Fi hub that will provide residents and visitors with the latest news and information on local businesses, traffic, mass transit schedules, local news, videos and other important features via a next generation fiber optic network.

According to Anthony McMillan, CEO, Newark Downtown District, “Downtown Newark is at the center of the city’s revitalization, and the Brand Newark kiosk is a shining example of this ‘new narrative’.The Newark Downtown District is excited to partner with NJII and the City of Newark to bring a higher level of connectivity to businesses, arts, education, and technology to those who live, labor and leisure in our district.”

The information will be fueled through “Brand Newark,” which will provide the free Internet, without the need for users to register. Innovators and developers will be sought to continually expand the capabilities of Brand Newark, as kiosks will ultimately be featured in all five districts of the city.  Learn more about opportunities at BrandNewark.org.

Bell Labs, Director of Research, Video and Audio Analytics, Paul Wilford said, “Nokia is a global leader in the technologies that connect people and things. Powered by the pioneering work of Bell Laboratories our research and innovation division, we are at the forefront of creating and licensing the technologies that are increasingly at the heart of our connected lives. To that end, we are honored to have the opportunity to participate in the MetroLab program and look forward to improving the quality of life of the residents of Newark through collaboration with the foundation and its participating members.”

In addition to support from Nokia/Bell Laboratories, the list of corporate partners working in the MetroLab@Newark program include:

– Panasonic

– IBM Corp

– Juniper Networks

– Lutron Electronics

– Arkados Group

– 4.0 Analytics

– Numina

– GoMo Health

– Aptinet Inc.

The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) is an NJIT corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the state’s science and technology university to challenges identified by industry partners. Through its Innovation Labs (iLabs), NJII brings NJIT expertise to key economic sectors, including healthcare delivery systems, bio-pharmaceutical production, civil infrastructure, defense and homeland security, and financial services.
